Admission Process

Entry is handled through the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), which is split into two stages: DAT Prelims (written test) and DAT Mains (studio test and personal interview).

Having entered the 6th decade of design excellence, NID has been active as an autonomous institute under the aegis of the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India; in education,applied research, service and advanced training in five faculty streams, Industrial Design, Communication Design, Textile, Apparel & Lifestyle Design, IT Integrated (Experiential) Design and Interdisciplinary Design Studies. NID offers a wide spectrum of design domains while encouraging transdisciplinary design projects.NID is a unique institution with many problem-solving capabilities, depths of intellect and a time-tested creative educational culture in promoting design competencies and setting standards of design education. 1. 5.5 Year Professional Education Master of Design (Integrated Pathway)/B.Des. & M.Des (at NID Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar & Bengaluru) is 11:59 pm (IST) (midnight) Monday, 30 November 2026.

2. Master of Design at NID, Madhya Pradesh is 11:59 pm (IST) (midnight) Monday, 30 November 2026.

3. Master of Design at NID, Haryana is 11:59 pm (IST) (midnight), Monday, 30 November 2026.

Structure of the NID Exam

The exam is conducted in two mandatory stager

NID DAT Prelims

A pen-and-paper written test.Evaluates general knowledge, design awareness, logical reasoning, and drawing/sketching skills.Acts as a screening round to shortlist candidates for the next stage

NID DAT Mains

Comprises a practical Studio Test (hands-on model making, material exploration, and sketching) and a Personal Interview (or portfolio review). Determines the final merit list and admission offers.
